The Bleeding Edge Screening
You are invited to the free, public screening of The Bleeding Edge.
From the Peabody Award-winning director of Human Harvest (2014), Leon Lee, a UBC alumna, comes a riveting thriller based on real-life events.
It’s the early 2000s when increasing spread of information technology has quickly become a perceived threat to the Chinese communist regime. In reaction, the regime develops “The Golden Shield Project” aimed to censor and restrict internet access while monitoring the activities of Chinese citizens.
A Canadian software developer, James Branton (Jay Clift), gets a share of the pie. He knows his technology is being used for the suppression of human rights, but he doesn’t fully understand what that means, until he suffers from a heart failure on the job while he is in China and gets a heart transplant. Finding some oddities with his heart transplant procedure, he begins doing his own research and uncovers the horrors his technology has helped create. Now, he has to risk his own life to save the next victim, Chen Jing (Miss World Canada 2015, Anastasia Lin), to find redemption.
