October 26, 2017 (The Bleeding Edge Screening)
FDF hosted a free screening of the award-winning must-see thriller, “The Bleeding Edge,” in Michael Kingsmill Forum (Room 4301) at the Nest, UBC, 4:00-6:00 p.m. The screening was followed by a Q&A panel discussion with Leon Lee, a UBC alumna and Peabody Award-winning director. (Leon was also interviewed on CiTR’s UBC Happy Hour Episode October 27, 2017). We hope you enjoyed the free movie and food!
Based on real-life events, The Bleeding Edge is about a Canadian technician in China who discovers that his heart transplant came from a vast organ harvesting enterprise. To find redemption, he has to risk everything to save a woman from becoming the next victim (watch the trailer here).
The movie has been rated as “a must see,” “thought provoking,” “thrilling,” and “devastating” by reviewers. It illustrates what has been really happening in China, unknown even to most ethnic Chinese. How can that be?
Anastasia Lin, who won the Miss World Canada title in 2015 and the Best Leading Actress in The Bleeding Edge at the Leo Awards in 2016, explains it well in the Oslo Freedom Forum (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbOf7XBS20g):
“As a student leader in China, my role was to organize my classmates to watch hatred propaganda videos. The Chinese Communist Party tries to make all Chinese complicit of its crimes. Learning that you have been deceived for so long is such a profound indignity. Perhaps that is why so many Chinese people continue to struggle to accept the truth even after they leave China. It is a profound embarrassment to learn that your whole belief system was based on lies.”
